The Vega phenomenon around G dwarfs ?
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, we present and discuss photometric infrared measurements taken with ISOPHOT at 60 μm for a sample of 30 G dwarfs, using C100 3X3 minimaps. This sample was selected from the set of more than 1600 G dwarfs which will be scrutinized for radial-velocity variations by the Geneva group, aiming at the detection of extra-solar planets. In our sample, 5 stars display an infrared excess at 60 μm. We have compared our results with those of Habing et al. (1999, in prep.), who have investigated the incidence and the survival of remnant disks around main-sequence stars. They concluded that most stars which arrive on the main-sequence still possess a disk, and that this disk then decays in the next 400 Myr. The 5 stars in our sample which have an infrared excess, are probably older than 3 Gyr, however, from which we suggest that the disks around cool stars may survive longer than those among earlier-type objects. For two stars in our sample, the fractional luminosity of the disk is significantly higher than for typical Vega-type stars, and approaches the exceptional value observed for β Pic. To investigate the correlation between an infrared excess and planets/companion stars, we combine our results with the first results of the CORALIE survey. None of the until now detected radial-velocity variables display an infrared excess. That the stars for which an infrared excess is found lack a companion, can however not be concluded at the present stage.

Towards a Deterministic Model of Planetary Formation. Iii. Mass Distribution of Short-period Planets around Stars of Various Masses
The origin of a recently discovered close-in Neptune-mass planet around GJ436 poses a challenge to the current theories of planet formation. Based on the sequential accretion hypothesis and the standard theory of gap formation and orbital migration, we show that around M dwarf stars, close-in Neptune-mass ice-giant planets may be relatively common, while close-in Jupiter-mass gas-giant planets ...
متن کاملAdaptive Optics Observations of Vega: Eight Detected Sources and Upper Limits to Planetary-mass Companions
From adaptive optics observations with the Palomar 5 m telescope we place upper limits on the masses of any planetary companions located between 30 and 230 AU away from Vega, where our data are sensitive to depths ranging from H 1⁄4 12:5 19:0 mag fainter than Vega itself. Our observations cover a plus-shaped area with two 2500 5700 elements, excluding 700 700 centered on the star. We have ident...
متن کاملHot circumstellar material around Vega
Using the FLUOR beam-combiner at the CHARA Array, we have obtained highprecision visibility measurements of Vega, a prototypic debris-disk star. The combination of long and short baselines has allowed us to separately resolve the stellar photosphere and the close environment of the star (< 8 AU). Our observations show a significant deficit in square visibility at short baselines with respect to...
متن کاملPlanets Around M-dwarfs – Astrometric Detection and Orbit Characterization
There are compelling reasons to search for planets around late M-dwarfs: current planet surveys have not been able to target these optically-faint stars, and the reduced primary stellar mass improves planet detection sensitivity for new techniques which can target these stars. In this white paper we argue that one can employ aging 2 m telescopes for dedicated astrometric programs in the spirit ...
متن کاملA NICMOS Direct Imaging Search for Giant Planets around the Single White Dwarfs in the Hyades
We report preliminary results from our search for massive giant planets (6-12 Jupiter masses) around the known seven single white dwarfs in the Hyades cluster at sub-arcsec separations. At an age of 625 Myr, the white dwarfs had progenitor masses of about 3 solar masses, and massive gaseous giant planets should have formed in the massive circumstellar disks around these ex-Herbig A0 stars, prob...
